Have questions about the STC4All Ambassador Program? Take a look at our most frequently asked questions.
Why is the STC4All Effort Important?
Access to transit is a major inequity across Los Angeles, disproportionately affecting people of color, low-income commuters, and people with disabilities that depend on public transit. About 79% of UCLA’s population commute to campus on a regular basis. To address these public transit inequities and promote more sustainable travel across our region, the STC4All Coalition advocates for a future STC rail line that includes a station on the UCLA campus and a seamless connection to the Purple Line.
What Level of Commitment is Required by Students?
We encourage any amount of dedication, as we recognize students have busy schedules. However, we recommend students commit to 3-4 activities per quarter to stay involved. See illustrative projects below.
What Advocacy Efforts Will Student Ambassadors Undertake?
Advocacy initiatives can include building our social media platform, expanding outreach efforts in the San Fernando Valley and beyond, hosting social events on and off campus, conducting research, holding informational meetings about STC4All, and more. Ambassadors are always encouraged to pursue their own advocacy and outreach, but can work on any of the following:
- Create social media content
- Build new partnerships
- Host social events
- Host informational sessions on and off campus
- Attend Metro Board meetings
- Flyer on Bruin Walk
- Propose and draft USAC resolutions
- Attend Neighborhood Council meetings
- Meet with local elected officials
- Make public comment
What is the Difference Between an Ambassador and a Champion?
Ambassadors and Champions both receive extensive training to become community leaders on and off campus. However, Champions serve as key leaders for the program and will take on larger responsibilities to guide other Ambassadors in STC4All’s mission.
What Will Orientation and Training Meetings Consist Of?
There will be 1 mandatory orientation meeting and 1 mandatory training session for Champions and Ambassadors to attend. These hour-long sessions will include UCLA alumni, staff, and/or faculty to train students on how to navigate advocacy tools, outreach strategies, and effective communication skills. They will provide insight on how to pitch ideas to stakeholders and elected officials, which serve beneficial for future public policy endeavors as civic leaders!
Who Leads the Ambassador Program?
The Ambassador Program is a student-led effort with opportunities to collaborate with the Office of UCLA Government and Community Relations. Champions and Ambassadors serve as a liaison between students, volunteers, and the GCR Office. The Ambassador Program encourages students who enjoying taking initiative on projects, work well in team settings, and are passionate about transit equity to sign up!
